Baltra Island, also known as South Seymour is located 27 km north of Isla Santa Cruz. The main airport of the Galapagos Islands is located here and was originally built by the Air Force of the United States in 1941. After the war the facilities were handed over to the government of Ecuador. Today the island remains a military base.

Transportation Baltra Airport to Puerto Ayora

Baltra is a flat, dry island surrounded by reefs and a few beaches. It has little vegetation and Cactus Opuntia and other small trees.

The journey from the airport in Baltra in the Galapagos Island to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island will take time about 45 minutes. 

On leaving the airport should take a bus to take him Itabaca channel (approximately 5 minutes), then a ferry (barge) that will take them through the channel connecting the two islands.

Then perform a one hour trip by bus to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island and its villages of Santa Rosa and Bellavista.
