Zamora Ecuador

Zamora is the capital of the province of Zamora Chinchipe and head of the namesake canton. Located in southeastern Ecuador, is one of six towns that make up the Amazon region. It has an area of 15 556 km ² which includes a unique mountainous terrain that distinguishes it from other cities. It is located about 970 feet above sea level, between the junction of the rivers Zamora, Bombuscaro and Jamboo. Its mining production, their indigenous ethnic groups with its rich archaeological heritage, its biodiversity and its immeasurable sites identify the city of Zamora.

Information of Zamora City

Zamora was known nationally as the mining capital of Ecuador, which has deposits of gold mines Nambija, Chinapinza and Guayzimi. Also known as the city of Birds and Waterfalls, due to the constant presence of various birds and waterfalls that protrude from the creeks surrounding the city.

The city was founded by the Spanish Hernando de Barahona on October 4, 1549, and was named after the Spanish city where he was born, bearing the same name.

Zamora was regarded as a jungle paradise, where tropical flora and fauna, have a stunning attraction in its valleys that extend past the foothills of the sub-Andean ridges.

Zamora in recent years has become one in a city of great urban development in preserving the forest vegetation geography that welcomes diversity of animals representative of the area, which include tapirs, capybaras, agoutis, pumas, birds and insects.
