La Perla Protected Forest is located 40 km. Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas in the road La Concordia - Esmeraldas. This is one of the last remnants of tropical rainforest in western Ecuador, considered as "hos spot" of the mega biodiversity.
La Perla Protected Forest has become a small haven for many species of our flora and fauna that have escaped logging and destruction of one of the most diverse ecosystems in the country.
It is home to approximately 250 species of birds, among which we mention lospájaros woodpeckers, toucans, macaws and cattle egrets.
Also in the surrounding forest can find 33 varieties of ferns and other species such as oak forestalesel, lignum vitae, laurel, legendary as the ceiba trees over 700 years, that characterizes this protective forest.
There are 250 hectares, among which are areas of crops. The forest has a very pleasant climate, its average temperature is between 18 º and 26 º C.
Undoubtedly one of the main attractions of the area is the cascade of Valle Hermoso, its crystal clear waters beckon the visitor to take a relaxing bath while enjoying the surrounding nature.
For nature lovers the Bosque Protector La Perla is ideal because it offers activities related to recreation, education and research. Inside you can find the Centre for Environmental Education and Interpretation and several paths that cover the most interesting places of the forest where you can admire the wide diversity of flora and avifauna.
