Information of Maldonado Park

Besides political, physical and mathematician, was an astronomer, surveyor, and geographer. Maldonado Park was the site of confluence of political and religious powers. On April 1, 1909, Councilman and writer Jose Donoso Alberto Council proposed to erect a monument to Maldonado and build a park with the same name. From that moment drew the first apples of the village, and built around the most important buildings of the city Riobamba.

The work of the park began under the direction of Italian architect Francisco Manuel Durini and culminated in June 1917. Since 1980 there have been works of restoration and beautification of the park, according to the standards of the time, making it the center of the city's social activities.

In the park there are four beautiful swimming pools in Europe forged in the previous century. They are located in the center of each side of the park, on the east side you can see the Cathedral of Riobamba.

All buildings surrounding the park are true landmarks, like the building of the municipality, has a neoclassical facade, large and high rooms, spacious corridors decorated with powerful and sober columns. Inside are two auditoriums where riobambeños discuss issues of public interest.
