Riobamba Ecuador, Basilica Sagrado Corazon de Jesus

The Basilica Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, is located across the street from Liberty and Centennial College in San Felipe Neri in the city of Riobamba. Construction began in 1883, and was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 9, 1915, hard 32 years to complete. In the main altar is the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is topped by a harmonious and beautiful dome.

Information of the Basilica Sagrado Corazon de Jesus

The city of Riobamba party dressed and attended the solemn meeting held on August 26, 1883, for the blessing of the foundation stone of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Since then, Indian hands, guided by the most experienced teachers, undertook the construction work, each in his specialty: carpenters, masons, stonecutters and carvers.

The temple was built with stones brought in from the mines of Gatazo. The Basilica is a work of art, walls, interior columns demonstrating the originality of the project and is crowned by a rotunda and a high central dome. The facade has two high towers and an arch 45 meters high.

Inside are images like the Sacred Heart of Jesus and others of deep religious significance, in the main altar you can admire the image of Christ.

It also has the altar of St. Joseph that is invaluable in form and detail, in the main facade of the temple is the statue of Christ the King, erected to mark the Centenary of the First Constituent Assembly. At the foot of the statue are carved two sentences of the first fundamental charter of government: "In the name of God, Author and Legislator of the Company."

In the center is dominated by a large dome surmounted by a cross and the sides are adorned with several cupolas.
