Guayaquil Ecuador, Seminary Park

Seminary Park, also known as Bolivar Park or Iguanas Park is one of the oldest in Guayaquil, has a colonial atmosphere and it was in the old center of Guayaquil. In his small, well decorated gardens iguanas live prehistoric giving an overview, up to 1 meter long and are the main attraction of the park. It is located in front of the Catedral Metropolitana, Chile in the streets, Chimborazo, Clemente Ballen and August 10.

History Seminary Park

In 1695 establishment of the Plaza de Armas in Guayaquil front of the old Mother Church, which was converted into a cathedral in 1838. With the passage of time made several modifications.

In the mid-nineteenth century, is now known as Parque de la Estrella, due to a paved plaza across a huge eight-pointed star, worked with darker colored stones than those of its surrounding streets. At the end of the century, this park would become a rallying point civic Guayaquil, octubrinas specifically for the festivities, while commemorating the Independence of Guayaquil.

By the year 1889, after management initiated by a committee formed for this purpose in 1872, rose an equestrian monument to the memory of Simón Bolívar, which gave him the name of Plaza Bolivar.

In 1895, Don Manuel Suárez Seminar made a substantial donation, which will be allowed to park fence, adorned with a gazebo, benches and embellished with gardens. In honor of this illustrious character of the Plaza Bolívar left to finally be called that now known as Seminary Park.

Attractions

In addition to the incredible iguanas in the park we can find other attractions as the Monument of the boar, which was donated by the Chinese colony that lived in the city, and was placed after the inauguration of the statue of the Liberator that took place on July 24 1889. On the concrete pedestal stands the monument at its base has a bronze allegorical nature which develops the battle of two wild boars. The boar is attacking in the lower abdomen to another boar.

Sobre el pedestal de hormigón se yergue el monumento que en su base presenta una alegoría en bronce de la naturaleza en la cual se desarrolla la lucha de dos jabalíes. El jabalí inferior está atacando en el vientre al otro jabalí.

We also find the Glorieta or kiosk, which is already part of the park since 1900. It is not known the name of the author, but has references that was cast in Val Dosman workshops in France around 1882. The plate has an octagonal gazebo, is located next to the park and topped up by a wrought iron ornamentation, which completes the central dome in red. Its structure was made entirely of wrought iron, as well as its cover.
