North Seymour Island, Galapagos Ecuador

Located north of Baltra, has a very flat surface (1.9 km ²) and a maximum altitude of 28 meters. It was raised from the ocean layer by a seismic event. Several cliffs with few meters form the beach where swallow-tailed gulls resting on the edge. This island is a large population of blue-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. It is also a small forest of silver and gray color of Palo Santo trees are very close to our landing, usually without leaves, waiting for the rain to bloom again.

Information of North Seymour Island

North Seymour Island is separated from Baltra (South Seymour) by a small canal. The two islands have similar vegetation because they were created by a geological survey sub.

Its flat surface, marine fossils and pillow lava are evidence of this origin.

North Seymour Island is known as one of the largest spawning blue-footed boobies and the largest colony of frigate real. It also has two endemic species of iguanas, sea and land.

Seymour Island is also a great place for different activities such as hiking, swimming, diving and of course for exotic bird watching.

During the trekking tourists will have the opportunity to watch the sea lions and marine iguanas, nesting blue-footed boobies that are near the road where couples perform their courtship dance.

On the beach of the Seymour Island you can see a large colony of pelicans and magnificent frigate with its huge red swish hanging from their necks. Also in the strong wave that hits the rocks, often gracefully swimming sea lions, the same as they are driven by the water to reach the shore, to get to the beach and relax in the company of marine iguanas.

Also in Seymour you can find five ideal sites for diving, accompanied by a large colony of garden eels distributed along the sandy sea bottom, sea turtles, sea lions, barracuda and schools of hammerhead sharks often, white-tipped sharks , freshwater sharks and schools of hammerhead sharks.
