San Cristabal Island Galapagos, Punta Pitt

Punta Pitt is located at the eastern end of Isla San Cristobal. Is a group of eroded volcanic cones and sparsely inhabited by endemic and indigenous vegetation in the Islands. Punta Pitt is a perfect place to nest a variety of sea birds, such as blue-footed boobies, masked, red-footed boobies, frigates, among others.

Information of Punta Pitt

Punta Pitt has a varied scenery of colors, because the lava flows of different types, and for its colorful vegetation, typical of xerophytic plants, in addition to its clear sky and its peaceful tues.

Substrate is composed of volcanic tuff. High winds present there have led to a natural erosion.

It is considered by many visitors as one of the most beautiful places in the Galapagos Islands because it is the only place where you can see the three species of boobies and frigate two species nesting in the same area.

Punta Pitt, has an area of approximately 558 km2 and 730m above the sea level. This is one of the places where sailing boats usually stop for a visit.

Visitors can walk a path of 1400 meters, including a beach about 90 meters olivine and a trail that ascends to the top of a tuff hill through several natural viewpoints. Estimated travel time is two hours.

The beautiful beach yellow-olive color is shiny crystals of sand to erosion of lava and shell caused by the sea. On it you can see dozens of sea lions, frigates, pelicans, herons and gulls flying over the place. The beach at Punta Pitt is also an excellent spa.

The Punta Pitt is a recommended place for snorkeling, since it has a wide variety of tropical fish
