La Compania Church, Quito

Information of La Compania Church

Built in 1605 by the Jesuits, who were delayed in 163 years to finish and that was just two years before the Jesuit order was expelled by the Spanish crown. For 1765 the church completed the construction work of the facade and in 1868 an earthquake destroyed the tower of the church and another in 1987 partially destroyed the church now has an intensive program of restoration.

The church interior is bathed in gold from the door to the vault, carefully carved in high relief with figures coated with fine gold and the bottom of a coral tone on, where Moorish arabesques own style of your roof dramatically mixed with baroque altars and walls.

In one of its domes are carved in the sun, which refers to the Inca God. The altar is full of pictures and sculptures that symbolize the Christian faith. Moorish influences are visible in the decoration of the vaulted ceiling and walls, as well as designs carved in the red columns and gold.
