Cerro Seco is the protected forest, located southwest of Bahia de Caraquez, facing the Pacific Ocean in the province of Manabi. The reserve forest is tropical very dry, drought-deciduous with 500-1000 mm of rain per year and two distinct seasons, with rainfall from late December to early April. His area of over 40 hectares and reaches an altitude ranging between 60 m and 200 m.s.n.m.

Information of Biological Reserve Cerro Seco

The Biological Reserve Cerro Seco offers many facilities for the observation of trails and viewpoints, they are kept in good condition. Dry Hill Biological Reserve also offers volunteer opportunities, research and development of community projects.

It has a considerable variety of endemic flora species including two carob ceibo rosewood, lignum vitae, realillo, Muyu, Sebastian, bototillo, cascol, moral fine, dry, jail coca tree, candelabra cactus, Guzmania, orchids, bromeliads.

In the Cerro Seco Reserve have been recorded 72 species of birds, it is estimated some 23 species of mammals, 7 species of reptiles, four species of amphibians and others. Cerro Seco was declared an Important Bird Area by Birdlife International.

he reserve has facilities for visitors and interpretive center, guided and self-guided trails, gazebo, camping area, guest house with shared rooms, cabins with basic services, research and training area, rescue centers and animal a library.

Cerro Seco offers volunteer work opportunities for research and development of community projects: Seed collection, inventory of flora and fauna, environmental education, nursery, ecotourism, community development, organic agriculture, research and scientific publication.

The protected area is managed by the Reserve Board, the community of Bellavista and conservationists, and sustainable development, who maintain the trails and viewpoints of the site and are also native to the area guides.

Cerro Seco in the reserve can perform various activities such as walks in the estuary and visits to the mangroves and bird watching migrating whales and visits to archaeological sites, it may also scuba diving, other adventure sports.
