The city of Cusco was the cradle of Inca civilization and the principal city of the Empire of Tahuantinsuyo, considered by the Incas as the "Navel of the World." Located on the eastern slopes of the Cordillera de los Andes, Huatanay River Basin, a tributary of Vilcabamba. City packed full of monuments and relics, of myths and legends, which seem to be reborn every time you walk through its century old streets, proudly retaining walls and stone walls that evoke the grandeur of the children of the sun. It is now a growing urban center and capital growth of a large region.
Cusco is the largest resort across the country, with an annual inflow of about one million visitors annually. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, that has a lot of monuments like the Round of America and is considered the oldest city in America.
Founded between the eleventh and twelfth centuries by Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, under a mandate from the Sun God then the March 23, 1534 on the orders of Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro, was founded back in the Spanish style.
More than 3000 years old the support to be considered as the oldest city. The cultural and geographical diversity, which has suffered from Cusco through the years, have become the historical center it is today and definitely in the most important tourist focus in Peru.
Cusco is surrounded by impressive archaeological remains, as the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Tambomachay Baths, platforms of Pisac, Ollantaytambo fortress and the unique buildings of Machu Picchu, on the banks of the Urubamba River, which was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, now known as the "Capital of America" or "Eternal City."
Machu Picchu is the most important tourist attraction of Peru, is located 120 km from Cusco, was recently declared as one of the seven new wonders of the world. It offers the opportunity to meet with innumerable Inca constructions which, in combination with nature, give a comprehensive view of the grandeur and importance that was Machu Picchu.
The city of Cusco was the center of sun worship ceremonies and welcomed the large mass. As we toured the streets you can still see the stones together artfully and old houses built by the Spanish over important Inca foundations, it is impossible not to perceive the sacredness of the town as in the times of the Incas.
The city offers its visitors a variety of attractions both cultural, historical and natural. Besides the unique opportunity of meeting with representatives of rural culture and artisans who preserve and transmit master skills and ancient techniques of the country.
