ITINERARY
Day 1
We left Quito at 8:00 am, went through major cities like Latacunga, Salcedo and Ambato, until you reach the base of the volcano Chimborazo, where we expect the mountain horses to start a four-hour ride up the flanks of the volcano between spectacular scenery, a dirt path by the very particular ecosystem Andean plateau to reach the first shelter located at 4800 meters above sea level. Here we will enjoy a delicious local cheese, bread, fresh fruit and coffee.
After lunch we will continue our ride on the Andean plateau has a spectacular view of majestic snowcapped Chimborazo that appears in all its splendor. In the afternoon arrive at the mountain retreat located at an altitude of 4000 meters Totorilla Valley, on the southern flank of Chimborazo, where where we will rest and recover after an active day.
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, we started a walk on the road to the Yungas, used for millennia as a mountain pass between the coast and the mountains to fetch and carry staples like salt and corn. It was later used by the Incas in the colony as a royal road Humboldt in 1802 and Simón Bolívar while traveling from Quito to Guayaquil. Continue by the side of the volcano, to a dry puna ecosystem into a small forest of paper or tree polylepis. We take a break for lunch.
Continuing then with a decrease in vehicle on the flanks of the Chimborazo to observe the slender vicuna, llamas and alpacas that graze freely throughout the area, to the refuge and we will go to the Pan American Highway to return to Quito.
