Information of Vilacabamba

Vilcabamba also called Garden of Ecuador, is a place of prodigious polychrome and beauty, watered by rivers and Uchima Chamba. Huilcopamba comes from the Quechua, meaning "Plain of the sacred tree." And referring to the sacred tree is the huilco, known since the time of the Incas for its medicinal properties.

The city retains an architecture of the Republican era. Most homes are built Vilcabamba of adobe and wood, with courtyards, wide doorways and beautiful gardens. Most people work in agriculture where it is rare to find an old centennial farm work by any farmer of 45 or 50 years.
